Methods and forms of writing in relation to artistic practice

Methods and forms of writing in relation to artistic practices 7,5 hp

This course is for artists with an interest in performance, dance and or choreography but who haven’t yet developed an independent writing practice.

The aim of the course is to problematise, investigate and experiment with the immanent relation between contemporary art – focusing on dance and performance – and different forms and methods of writing such as the score, the essay and autobiographical writing. We will read and discuss texts by artists, writers and dancers ranging from Michel de Montaigne, Walter Benjamin, to Chris Kraus, to Hito Steyerl, Yvonne Rainer, Yoko Ono and Hannah Black.

The course overlaps with some lectures and mentors within the course DOCH's Summer School Residence and students are encouraged to take both courses as a way to develop an artistic work alongside the development of their writing practice. The course Methods and forms of writing in relation to artistic practices can also be taken independently.
