The Bachelor program in Dance Pedagogy
DOCH educates dance pedagogues and dance teachers with an artistic and pedagogical profile relating to dance and choreography in a contemporary context. The courses and programs relates to new social structures by using relevant methods and interactive processes. This requires a development of the pedagogical and artistic methods that is used to train and communicate within and through dance. In new media, dance is communicated both as an art-form, as entertainment and as a field of knowledge. The teaching of dance has many levels and is becoming more and more interdisciplinary. An important prerequisite for contemporary artistic education in dance pedagogy is a close connection to other programs in education in the arts as well as the artistic work in dance.
DOCH educates pedagogues and teachers with a strong artistic and scientific identity. The students are provided with tools that allow them to face the dance related needs of different groups throughout the life cycle. This includes skills and knowledge in dance training, theoretical approaches, improvisation and choreography. They become dance pedagogues or dance teachers with the ability to develop new approaches to teaching and learning dance during the studies a connection is made to the plurality of modern society.
The programs have a profile that focus on the development of new research, which is based in didactic questions and theories. They encompass a multitude of forms of teaching in, about, for and through dance as an art form. Another important part is pedagogy as a scientific subject and cooperation with researchers and educators from other universities, which contributes to strengthening the quality of education within this area. The studies give the students a chance to develop an independent, critical and reflective approach to working as a dance pedagogue.

We are in the process of developing a teachers training program in dance intended for working mainly within secondary schools.
