Accommodation
The University does not own any accommodation, but rent rooms for exchange students from the landlord SSSB. University of Dance and Circus have a limited number of rooms located in the Area of Lappkärrsberget (Lappis). If you are interested in any other type of accommodation, you will have to arrange it by yourself. You apply for accommodation through the University by filling in the application form for exchange students.
Location
The housing area was built in the late sixties and is called “Lappis” for short. It consists of apartment buildings on three streets: Amanuensvägen, Forskarbacken and Professorsslingan. It is located in a green environment in the outskirts of Stockholm city, close to the University. The buildings are between four and six storeys tall and there are 10-12 rooms in each corridor, all fully furnished and with your own shower and WC. The residents, both from Sweden and other countries, share a kitchen and a living room. There are laundry rooms on the housing area. Children or animals are not allowed in the student rooms.
Rent
The rent for the room is SEK 3300 per month. The rent includes cold and hot water, electricity and heating and high-speed internet access with unlimited time online.
Transportation
The closest underground station Universitetet (red line) is 12 minutes away from T-centralen and about 5 minutes away from Tekniska högskolan. From Universitetet you can walk to Lappis in 5-10 minutes. If you come by car, there is a limited outdoor area where you can park, and parking places in a car park can be rented. Inventories in the room and kitchen
The rooms are fully furnished with a desk, wardrobe, chair and bed. You must bring your own quilt, pillow, sheets and towels. Rooms might be provided with a quilt and a pillow but that cannot be guaranteed. The corridor kitchens are equipped with common freezers and fridges and private cupboards but you should prepare to bring your own cooking utensils, china and so on. All this things not included can of course be bought once in Stockholm.
Key, code and laundry
Upon arrival you will receive keys for your room, kitchen cupboard and letterbox. To enter the corridor you need a code which will be given to you together with your key. Lost keys are subject to a reimbursement fee of 1000 SEK for change of locks. In the laundry room you will find washing machines and booking lists.
Insurance
There is an insurance that covers the building and surfaces in the room such as floors and walls. Your personal belongings will NOT be covered by this and you will have to sign insurance in your home country for this. It is very difficult to get insurance in Sweden for Exchange students as you will not have a Swedish personal identity number which is required by insurance companies. It is not mandatory to have insurance, but we recommend it.
TV, Telephone, computers and internet
There is a TV in the common living room. There are no telephones available in the corridors. Should you wish to use a mobile phone whilst in Sweden, there are plenty of options and good deals can be found by shopping around Stockholm. The best option might be to bring your mobile phone from your home country and purchase a pre-paid SIM card in Sweden, but check with your mobile phone company prior to leaving your home country to decide the best option for you once you are in Sweden.
The rooms are not equipped with computers. You will need to bring your own computer to be able to use the internet access included in your rent. You will get your application form for internet access (starting-up fee of 375 SEK) on your arrival.
Things that are subject to maintenance
The University does not own any accommodation, but rent rooms for exchange students from SSSB. If something is wrong with the toilet, water, plumbing, heating, stove or other fixed inventories you should contact SSSB’s local caretaker. Information about the responsible caretaker for your building is indicated at the entrance. SSSB has a local office at Professorsslingan 13 and the reception is open Monday to Friday 08.00-09.00 and has also extended opening hours Mondays 16.00-18.30. This office is responsible for outdoor maintenance, such as snow and ice removal.
