"Diversity: or how to not think the other"

The aim of the course it to situate and critically discuss the idea of diversity, problematizing and retracing how it has entered the public sphere and legal, social, political and ethical discussions. The aim is also to question and examine how contemporary dance as a practice and a conceptual framework has proposed different strategies and ideas in order to address the always other, gendered, raced, differently abled, or colonial body. The course will consist of lectures, lectures-performances, seminars and workshops in which the student will meet artists and theoreticians, who problematize the idea of diversity in relation to power structures and in relation to strategies of “being singular plural”, participation and involvement in de-normalizing bodies and rehearsing citizenship. The student will get an insight in questions related to the idea of diversity, from social, political, ethical and artistic perspectives and discuss them, as well as possible strategies to address these questions. The language of instruction is English.
