OBJECTS AND SPEECH
Tove Salmgren presents OBJECTS AND SPEECH
Tove Salmgren will be presenting her master project OBJECTS AND SPEECH, a presentation in two parts. One is a video installation consisting of video documentations of Salmgren and two of her colleagues (Manon Santkin and Stina Nyberg) when doing the score “Objects and Speech”, one by one at MDT in Stockholm. Another part is a three-bodied version of the score, presented live in the context of the event “We happen things”, performed by Nyberg, Santkin and Salmgren.
“Objects and Speech” was developed in a residency at MDT 2014, where Salmgren engaged in an inventory of her ideas in relation to the artistic format ”performance”. The materialization of ideas into objects suggested and helped her to draw up a distance between herself and her ideas, a distance that in itself was writing the outlines of a new ”body” of performance. This “performance body”, as a material, has been followed up on in an investigation which deals with creative articulation and exchange on a explicit level. The work proposes a way to explore and imagine relations of materiality and immateriality, for the spectators as well as for the performers doing the score.
Tove Salmgren works in a landscape of performance, dance and choreography, as an initiator and collaborator in different artistic contexts and formats. Her interest lays in performance as an event for meeting, were preconditions of that meeting, as well as the meeting itself, is set up to be experienced collectively. The materiality of her practice often concern formal and informal use of language, with a strong relation to a feministic discourse concerning power structures and relations as well as questions of domination within the tradition of dance.
